Tumanggal cotton is woven by hand in Java, Indonesia, on a traditional backstrap loom. A single weaver works a few centimeters at a time, and each length of cloth takes days to finish.

The hand weave gives it a soft drape and a character no machine can copy. We believe clothing woven by human hands is high vibrational, and that you can feel the difference, and that difference elevates your spirit.

Spirit & Story

In Java, Indonesia, some villages still weave Tumanggal cotton the old way: by hand, on a backstrap loom tied to the weaver’s own body.

The cloth grows slowly as she leans back to keep the threads taut, and every slight variation in the weave is a trace of her hands. These pants were designed in collaboration with Myrah Peñaloza, who has worked with Javanese weaving families for years and sources the fabric directly from them. Slow to make, and made to be worn for years.
